I love a good British summer: the wife’s lighting the fire and I just saw a girl in Uggs and a puffy coat…

For months you were looking forward to summer. Wintertime was cold and just wouldn’t end. Weeks were passing by so slowly, but finally, there she was, the sun!
Nights were short, days were long, mornings full of singing birds.
And you thought, ah, it has finally begun and it will last for a century at least! But summertime once again is ending…

Oh, it seemed to be a summer without ending. The world was full of life and sunlight. The scent of herring mixed with sunburn creme. A parasol to filter the bright sunshine and in your clothes you felt the scraping sand, we played golf and pétanque, enjoyed sunbathing in a chair and floated down the river on a raft. We were spoiled for weeks. But all good things come to an end. Now I’m just watching flowers withering in the rain.

The autumn’s colouring the tree leaves and I’m wearing my pyjamas again. You should have been here in the midst of July, we could sleep outside on the beach, and go fishing in the bright morning, swim as far as we could and sail in a boat upon the waves.
So sad that it’s all over now, it all became a memory…but that’s what keeps us going in the winter days, until summer is back again

See you on the other side 🙂
